The 1/700 scale Seals Model kit of Shirase II ,the current JMSDF icebreaker and research vessel by Don McKeand.
The kit it very nicely moulded with generally good fit of parts. No photo etch is provided, so the four platforms for the small domes on the superstructure, the crane jib supports and the tripod and lattice masts are all provided as solid mouldings. These were re-made with fine wire and plasticard. Railings from Tom’s Modelworks, flight deck netting from Gold Medal Models and steps from L’Arsenal were used. As the hangar was to be depicted open, the interior was detailed, although this cannot be seen on the pictures. Lettering decals from a Model Art generic sheet and home-made symbols were added to the shipping containers.
