The diorama as you can see in the photos is a work I did last year. I had been asked to depict the USS Shelton destroyer exactly as it was at 1952 in Korean War. This construction is intended as a gift to a crew member who was serving during that time at the ship. There are some very nice kits of Gearing Fram versions from Dragon but not exactly this one that we needed. But there is a resin kit from ISW which is exactly our version but a little bit poor in detail compared with Dragon’s kit. So I chose to make a combination of these two models. Certainly the most demanding part of the model was the tripod mast. As you can see in the photos, I selected to build a new one from brass rods. The basic parts were soldered and the smallest gluing using epoxy glue. We borrowed parts from the superstructure from resin kit as the 5 inch AA guns and the gun director too. Plastic strips and sheets were used to create some other details. I also used North Star figures, L’Arsenal’s vehicles and Black Dog’s buildings. The whole scene was painted using Vallejo colors and washes.
